Idea of South - Interactive Sound Map
by Roger Mills & Neil Jenkins.Inspired by our re-location from the United Kingdom to Australia eighteen months ago, Idea of South explores the ontology of life in the southern hemisphere through the contrapuntal layering of sound.
Part phonography, part psycogeography, Idea of South maps an evolving collage of sound events through a web interface, allowing users to zoom in, listen, and mix recordings of chosen locations. Up to ten recordings can be mixed at any one time with user control of volume and panning.

All field recordings have been contributed by sound artists throughout the southern hemisphere, and feature written personal observations and responses to each location. This impressionist soundscape continues to evolve as more sounds are added, and there is an ongoing call for submissions. Follow LINK for guidelines on contributing a recording.
