BOWER is a design collective interested in engaging site specific and process driven discourse. Our practice explores issues of context, materiality, surface, space and place. Anode Festival is an opportunity to test emerging ideas of mark marking, delineation and difference.  BOWER posses a sense of responsibility to not completely remove existing forms, qualities or conditions but to employ them to inform the design response. Our work as part of the Anode Festival celebrates the
conditions of site with simple mark making re-iterations, articulating the existing forms of a non-descript wall at a pragmatic ‘rulers length’ difference from the original mark.

The nominal length of a ruler is 32.5cm. Of which 30cm is a measurement
of space and the remainder is the unknown quantity, the 2.5cm to which people are indifferent. BOWER is interested in playing with this gestural difference. The work, which is sited on a receding sidewall at 1000 Pound Bend, activates the surface space through a formulated response to the existing topography. A process of mark making becomes a spatial and temporal exercise and the marks of which most people are indifferent are transformed by the difference of 32.5cm.
