anode 2009

Anode is a season of art events connecting independent, local and experimental artists in unique spaces across Melbourne and Sydney from 30th October to 5th December 2009. Collectively curated through networks and groups in Sydney and Melbourne, there are no themes and no dictates from above. Over 300 artists, musicians, performers, filmmakers, designers, writers and curators will take over warehouses, rooftops, café menu-boards, an incinerator, a public car park and gallery strips during this season of local and independent art-appreciation. The 2009 program kicks off on 30th October at 1000 £ Bend in Melbourne and 21st November at Paddington Town Hall in Sydney, with a screening of Beautiful Losers, digital media installations, performances and a festival bash.

Program highlights include listening pods from literary magazine Going Down Swinging,a series of video art projections collectively known as Video From The Borough, a degustation of poetry set amongst the menus of Sydney eateries, avant-garde audio-visual performances from Flutter Lyon and Lukasz Karluk,Speakeasy Cinema screenings of The Universe of Keith Haring and Obscene, video projections from digital media project Sharing Stories, a chat with culture vulture Craig Schuftan, a documentary which traces the highs, lows and loops inside the world of artistic roller-skating, installations from sound artist Lars Chresta (ollo), plus exhibitions at Oh Really, At the Vanishing Point and Kudos as part of Anode’s Gallery Stream.
